List Building
If you have been around Internet Marketing for more than five minutes, you have heard the phrase, “Your money is in your list.” As with most things the “gurus” say, that is only partially true. The money is not in the list, it’s in your relationship to your list.
To gain a good relationship with your list, there are some important guidelines:
- Segment your list. You should have different lists for prospects and paying customers. Each of those lists may even be divided on their level of interest in your product or service, level of membership in your program, or interest in different product offerings or service plans.
- Mail often enough. Mail as often as necessary to communicate your message without being bothersome. You may even wish to ask your Customer or Prospect how often they would like to receive communication from you, and for what reasons.
- Be a friend, not a SALESperson. If your recipient sees your email and can’t click Delete fast enough, you are wasting your effort and cost in mailing to them. Your e-mails ought to be so relevant that your Customer or Prospect can’t wait to open them. Hint: the bulk of your content should not be on ways to sell to them. (There are exceptions and nuances to this which we’ll e happy to discuss with you.) Have something to say. Say it. Refer your reader to more information or wish them well till next time. You are a welcome guest in their home or office while they read your e-mail; be courteous and respectful of their time and attention and they will reward you with theirs.
- Expect to lose readers. It happens; it’s a normal process. Constantly add new subscribers to your list. This is accomplished by focusing on directing targeted, relevant traffic to your website.
Mailing relevant content to your list is extremely important, and making sure your e-mail gets delivered is perhaps even more important. An auto-responder e-mail service is the best way to insure your list receives your communication; there is one company that we recommend as offering the highest deliverability methods on the most affordable budget.
